Leading with Purpose
Messages of the Vice Chancellor MESSAGES OF THE VICE CHANCELLOR

                                     20. Under my leadership, there is not an iota of doubt that all these ingrained diseases
will not be tolerated. No tolerance will be given for any efforts to form mini
groupings or intent to push for individualised interests.
                                     21. The right staff will be recognised based on systematic talent recognition and only
the best performing staff pillared on pure merit and performance will be given the
                                         right recognition and promotion.
                                     22. For far too long, our internal self inflicted diseases of hatred and jealousy,
reluctance to give due credit to others, priority of self interests, self fame and self
gains over the larger interests of the university, and other ingrained and systemic
bad practices have been the main cancerous plague that has prevented us from
achieving our best and has been one of the chronic barriers in limiting our growth.
                                     23. Yet, no concerted and serious political will and actions have been taken to address
this dangerous mindset. The buck stops here and it stops with me.
                                     24. For the university to break free from this, the root causes must be tackled head
on and addressed with great conviction and audacity, without a scintilla of fear
or favour. While not all are succumbing to this chronic misdemeanour, it must be
nipped in the bud and to stem the tide.
“ A good and 25. For far too long, the contract staff issue has been limiting our true capacity and
have derailed the efforts to truly hold on and recognise our talented contract staff
that have given their best to the university.
              competent staff
will be recognised 26. There have been contract staff that have been serving for more than 10 and 15
duly with no fear or years and contributed immensely to the university in their own pure merit, and
favour, regardless yet they remain stuck in this vicious cycle of contract issue. This is a huge loss to
of all factors the university and the rotten system that has plagued us for decades stops now.
4 including grade, 27. A good and competent staff will be recognised duly with no fear or favour,
background, regardless of all factors including grade, background, employment type, race,
employment type, gender, or any other affiliation.
race, gender, 28. Any proven and competent staff will be given the right appreciation and recognition
or any other in terms of long overdue promotion or other recognitions appropriate.
affiliation. 29. All staff of the university belong to the same big family, and there will be no more
division and animosity shown towards one group or the other based on the disease
of favouritism or whether the staff are serving on a permanent or a contract basis.
              “
                                     30. The mantra of the right person for the right job at the right place will be the order
of the day based on the highest impact and returns to the university in capitalising
and leveraging on the best expertise that one has in the field.
                                     31. All processes and services provided must be efficient, future driven and strategic
and no tolerance will be shown for any efforts to slow the processes or to make it
difficult for our students and stakeholders both locally and abroad.
                                     32. Red tape, incompetency, excessive bureaucracy and Little Napoleons will be a
permanent fixture of the past, lock stock and barrel.
                                     33. There will be no fear or favour shown for those underperforming staff that have
consistently hampered the university’s goals and directions in all its different
                                         domains.
                                     34. No tolerance will be shown for any individuals or systems that derail the university’s
quest to embark on this monumental gigantic leap towards a truly established
university of the world and the forefront of humanity.
                                     35. That said, I will reiterate again, the welfare and needs of our staff will be my utmost
priority. For us to get the best outcome and performance from our staff, we will
recognise and acknowledge their talents and contributions.
                                     36. Each of us has to play our role well. I have mentioned it and I will make it clearer
again, that there will be no more working in silos and a territorial mindset that has
hampered our operational capacity and potential.
