FASS Professor Receives an Award for
Contribution to Southeast Asian Studies
of Liberal Arts, Thammasat University in Bangkok and
was attended by distinguished foreign ambassadors in
Thailand, the president and top management of
Thammasat University, government senior officials, and
scholars from across Asia.
Professor Hanafi, who is from the Department of
Southeast Asian Studies, has dedicated over three
decades of his career to studying the culture, history,
and politics of Southeast Asia, and has emerged as a
leading academic voice in the field of Southeast Asian
performing arts.
This award is not merely a testament to his unwavering
expertise, but also serves as a recognized symbol of
hope and inspiration, validating the significance of
promoting cultural understanding and diplomacy
On 24 March 2023, HRH Princess Maha Chakri among nations in shaping the future of Southeast Asia

Dean Elected Fellow of Academy of
Sciences Malaysia
The Dean, Professor Datuk Dr Danny
Wong Tze Ken, was elected as Fellow of
the Academy of Sciences Malaysia in its 2023 Annual General
Meeting.
The Academy of Sciences Malaysia is a statutory body
established Under the Academy of Sciences Malaysia Act
1994, with a mission to pursue, encourage and enhance
excellence in science, engineering and technology in support
of the nation’s development and for the benefit of mankind.
A Fellowship with the Academy is a prestigious recognition of
individuals with outstanding achievement and contribution in
science, engineering, technology or social sciences, and
humanities. Prof. Wong is a fellow of the Social Sciences and
Humanities Cluster. In addition, Prof. Wong is also a Fellow of
the Royal Historical Society.
