The wonder of Amazing Thailand with
Prince of Songkla University
by Siti Sarah Jasmine Binti Azli, 4th year B.A. International and Strategic Studies, Graduate
Semester break has always been the most anticipated
month for students of Universiti Malaya as it is the time for
these youth to rest from all the cramming for exams and
hectic lecture schedules. It is also the right moment for
the university to send students to short mobility or
outbound programmes to partnered universities across
the border.
This time around, the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
organised the Let's Fly Programme, sending out several
teams to different partner universities. One of them was
Going for outdoor activities in Khao Lak the Prince of Songkla University, Trang Campus in
Thailand, also known as PSU. The Prince of Songkla
University has had a long partnership history with
Universiti Malaya, amounting to ten years of cooperation.
This year is the 10th year of the partnership, making the
Let's Fly Programme more special and meaningful. The
programme was held from 5th to 12th September 2022,
and UM sent a total of 14 representatives, including 12
students and 2 of the faculty`s officers.
The country certainly lives up to its nickname of Amazing
Thailand, a slogan widely used to describe the country to
the rest of the world. The students really experienced the
Playing chef at the School of Culinary Arts, Suan Dusit University amazing nature of the country, from the mouth-watering
dishes and mesmerising scenery to their unique culture.
The Prince of Songkla University did their best to
accommodate participants in order to fully experience
Thai culture. UM participants received a warm welcome
from the PSU team.
We were entertained with a special opening performance
and delicious local Thai cuisine. Every day was jam-
packed with lots of exciting activities such as relaxing at a
hot spring, rafting, hiking, Phraya Ratsadnupradit
Muay Thai at the Sports Gym Centre, PSU Museum, Na Muen Si Weaving and more. Furthermore,
the UM students also had the chance to learn Thai
language and their traditional dance known as “Nora”. It
is fascinating that the UM representatives managed to
master the dance within three days despite the full
schedule.
The best part was the experience of wearing the
complete traditional outfits for the Nora dance. Every
moment was precious and it is sad that the program only
lasted for 9 days. We hope that this wonderful and
productive relationship between Universiti Malaya and
Prince of Songkla University will last for a long time.
