STRATEGIC PLAN 5
TO PROVIDE AN INTEGRATED INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY ENVIRONMENT
Information is a strategic asset of an organisation. Therefore it needs to be managed properly. With the
huge amount of information in the University, it can only be managed efficiently through the application of
information technology (IT). Computing core processes allows information to be stored and accessed easily
and quickly, while reducing bureaucracy that often delay action in a fast paced and competitive world.
Coupled with the use of the latest electronic gadgets, information is truly at your fingertips, and it would
give an advantage to the University.
To date, several parts of the PTM are being held responsible to automate key processes of the University,
has developed many information systems. However, the absence of a comprehensive strategic plan to
guide the development of information systems developed causes information systems to be developed in
ad-hoc and in some instances, isolated. This isolation has caused the same information to be stored in
several places which then leads to the issue of inconsistent data. Apart from that, there are no priority
projects (project prioritisation) which make system development to be done in a hurry which eventually
affect the quality of the system.
Hence Strategic Plan 5:
• Outline projects that are developed for a period up to 2013
• Identification of legacy systems that need to be integrated
Under this strategy, among projects under planning are the development of a single portal for the campus
community, the computerisation of key processes in an end-to-end and the provision of Business
Intelligence Tool for the management.
