• To consolidate the ICT infrastructure, for example the use of virtualisation technology by
Data centres to optimise the use of computing resources (CPU, RAM, network bandwidth),
reducing the number of physical computing hardware, with space-saving footprint reduction,
and reduce the use of electricity and heat generation.
• To integrate ICT services and sharing ICT infrastructure wisely to optimise consumption and
reduce cost and energy.
• To use balanced cooling system, with focus to ICT equipment cooling instead of space cooling to
save electricity usage.
• To practice Paperless Government in stages to reduce use paper for documentation, meeting
calls, memos and circulars
• To create an online Helpdesk system or E-counter (such as conducted by IRB) to increase
targeted online transactions, optimise the use of manpower (labor) and lower carbon
emissions. ICT problems complainants do not need to physically go to the counter to make a
complaint, but by using the online Helpdesk system will be adequate as how taxpayers in
Malaysia do not need to travel by vehicle to the IRB branch - using the E-counter would suffice.
• To use email as a medium of communication and doing business.
• To use ICT product or system that improves the environmentally friendly performance for non
ICT usage such as energy control systems, environmental monitoring systems for buildings and
related matters.
Application of Green ICT culture among the university community is hoped to contribute to the
achievement objectives of the National Green Technology Policy in:
• Applying the concept of Green Data Centre to a new data centre that will be developed.
• Ensuring that ICT projects in line with the sustainable development intention to support
preservation and conservation of the environment and nature for generations to come.
• Reducing energy consumption and at the same time increase productivity and economic
development.
• Encouraging the development of green technology industry and to increase the Green
technology contribution towards the economy.
• Increasing education and awareness of Green Technology and encourage Green Technology
exercise widely in the ICT sector.
• Improving the quality of life by improving the efficiency of Malaysia online service delivery.
Thus the efforts of Green ICT acculturation in all organisations matters will be implemented through the
following activities as planned:
• Green ICT Policy Development
• Reduction of Energy Consumption by ICT equipment by applying the tools and Green hardware
• Reduction of Use of ICT Hardware and Materials
