                 Course Learning                At the end of this course, students are able to:

                 Synopsis of Course             This  course  allows  students  to  develop  an  in-depth
                 Contents                       knowledge  of  ASEAN  regionalism.  Part  one  provides  an
                                                introduction  to  the  theoretical  framework,  practical
                                                rationale and the requirements and expected outcome of
                                                regionalism.  It  further  zooms  in  to  the  evolution  of
                                                ASEAN  as  regional  organization.  Part  two  covers  the
                                                normative  values  and  political  realities  associated  with
                                                the ‘ASEAN way’ as a set of principles and a method of
                                                conducting      regional     diplomatic     relations    and
                                                implementing agreements among member states. It also
                                                deals with the norms, values, principles and procedures
                                                that  governed  regional  organization.  Part  three  will
                                                analyse  the  ASEAN  strategies  in  maintaining  the
                                                relevancy of ASEAN in the globalized world and evaluate
                                                the  ASEAN  mechanism  in  managing  the  relations  with
                                                other  countries  and  regions.  Examples/cases  given  are
                                                within the Asia-Europe context.
