Course Learning At the end of this course, students are able to:

and dynamics of Europe, particularly the EU. (A3)
develop analytical and critical skills with which to
approach the major political, economic, and legal
issues of the EU, particularly the problems and
perspectives of European integration. (P5)
evaluate the developments in Europe and the EU in
comparison to the developments of both Asia and
the Asia-Pacific. (C5)

Synopsis of Course This course provides students with a cohesive overview
Contents of the history of modern Europe particularly the EU, and
the legal, economic, and political dimensions of European
integration; which includes the critical evaluation of
current major problems in European integration and
cooperation as well as options and perspectives for their
solution. The course relates the development of the EU
to general concepts such as good governance, regional
cooperation, and global governance as well as to
European political theory-building. The course includes
fundamental debates within Europe, on concepts and
issues of multilevel governance, regionalisation and inter-
regionalism; also the interrelation of regional identity,
values, and interests regarding both the intra-European
aspects as well as the foreign relations and global role of
the EU. Examples/cases given are within the Asia-Europe
context.
