Synopsis of Course This course provides an in-depth assessment of the
Contents security challenges encountered by members of ASEAN
for more than four decades since its establishment in
1967. The key focus is on the way that ASEAN members
have taken on new policy competencies across a range of
areas. The course covers a range of security agenda of
ASEAN, focusing on issues and problems related to
regional security cooperation, leading to the realisation
of the security and political pillar of the ASEAN
Community. The course also covers the emergence of
non-traditional security issues in ASEAN such as
environmental and economic security and their
implications. Examples/cases given are within the Asia-
Europe context.
