PBET2113 – LANGUAGE LEARNING ANG LANGUAGE USE (3 Credit Hours )

            Synopsis:

            The course examines key concepts and issues in language learning and language use. It sensitizes language teachers to the psychological
            and social dimensions of language learning and language use. In addition to lectures, readings and class discussions, students will be
            encouraged to observe, record and analyze language use and language learning in a variety of settings.

            Assessment Method    : Assignment   -  60%,  Test   -  40%

            PBET3103 – LANGUAGE TESTING AND ASSESSMENT (3 Credit Hours )

            Synopsis:

            This  course  will  provide  students  with  basic  concepts  and  principles  of  language  testing.  It  will  expose  students  to  various  testing
            approaches and techniques and issues particularly those related to the questions of how and what to test and also the evaluation of test
            quality. The emphasis of the course will however be on the identification and construction of test procedures which are useful for language
            teachers. Students will be introduced to various types of language tests and the criteria for constructing particular types of tests. They will be
            sensitized to methods used to elicit language performance. The theoretical framework provided should  enable the students to describe
            characteristics of existing language tests and to develop new language tests. They will conduct research to test the effectiveness of the test
            items.  Students will be able to do practical work on constructing tests and analyzing and interpreting test results. They will also be required
            to construct marking schemes and evaluate each other’s marking schemes.

            PBET3107 – INTEGRATIVE SEMINAR: ISSUES IN TESL (3 Credit Hours )

            Synopsis:

            The course builds on and integrates the TESL methodology courses in the teaching of listening, speaking, reading and writing in the light of
            the  teaching  practice  experience.  The  main focus  of  the  course  is  to  provide  a milieu  for  post-teaching  practice  reflection  and  to  help
            participants theorise key elements from those experiences. The course will consider the management of change in school settings and the
            impact of curriculum innovations on the teaching-learning situation.
