b)  If Candidature Defence is deemed unsatisfactory, the student needs to present
                   Second Candidature Defence in the following semester.
               c)  If Second Candidature Defence is deemed unsatisfactory, then the student will be
                   asked to discontinue his or her doctoral studies.

               PhD Thesis Seminar

               Students  who  have  submitted  their  three-month  submission  notice  are  required  to
               present  their  research  in  PhD  Thesis  Seminar  within  one  month  after  three-month
               submission notice.

               Students must submit presentation notes with abstract of 500 words to UMGSB not later
               than three (3) working days before PhD thesis seminar

               The  panel  for  PhD  thesis  seminar  comprises  of  the  Chairman  who  is  the  Head  of
               Department  or  representative,  supervisors  and  internal  assessor.  The  results  of  the
               seminar include:

                   •  Satisfactory and proceed with final thesis submission OR
                   •  Unsatisfactory and required refinement.


               Students must get approval from supervisors for the final submission.

               Thesis Submission

               After admission to candidacy, a doctoral candidate must write and then defend a
               thesis as the final phase of the doctoral programme. The maximum word count for
               thesis  is  100,000  words  (footnotes,  references,  appendixes,  tables  and  figures  are
               excluded). Plagiarism report must not exceed 15 percent.

               The thesis must reflect original and significant research in the student's chosen field.  It
               must  meet  high  standards  of  scholarship  as  well  as  contribute  to  the  body  of
               knowledge in that field.

               A candidate shall inform the Faculty about the submission of his thesis for examination
               in accordance to the procedure prescribed subject to approval of the thesis title by
               the Faculty.

               A candidate shall submit his thesis for examination after the title has been approved
               within  the  stipulated  duration.  A  candidate  who  fails  to  do  so  shall  renew  the
               registration for the subsequent semester unless an approval is given by the Dean of
               the  Faculty  to  extend  the  submission  deadline.  If  the  Dean  of  the  Faculty  is  the
               candidate’s supervisor, the extension of submission deadline is subject to the approval
               by the Deputy Vice Chancellor concerned.
