AA047003 DEVELOPMENT THEORY AND PRACTICE

Course Learning At the end of this course, students are able to:
Outcomes
(1) Evaluate the development theories and policies in a
global context;
(2) Analyze current development issues and problems in
the developed and developing world;
(3) Compare the development experiences of the
developed and developing countries; and
(4) Debate the strategies to solve development-related
problems in developed and developing countries.
Synopsis of Course This course starts with a review of development concepts,
Contents definitions and theories. The course exposes students on the
approaches and methodology of development to design a
better development policy. Following this is an analysis of
development policy, processes, mechanisms and models. A
review of the paradigm shifts in the field of development is
further discussed. Finally, critical discussion on the
development challenges and needs for new approaches in
the context of globalization and changing roles of the
government, private and non-government agencies is
explored.
