AA047006 GENDER ISSUES IN DEVELOPMENT
3 Credits
Course Learning At the end of this course, students are able to:

(1) Evaluate theories, concepts and issues related to
gender in the context of development in developing
countries;
(2) Compare development of gender among the developing
countries; and
(3) Critically analyse development policies and interventions
on issues of gender equity and gender- aware planning
in developing countries.
Synopsis of Course This course is designed to familiarise students with the main
Contents analytic debates in the field of gender and development.
Students will be introduced to debates in feminist thinking
and link them to gendered policy and programming. The
issues on closing the gender gap in labour force, education,
politics and state-civil society relations are key concepts of
development that will be addressed in the course. Key policy
and conceptual debates will also be examined in conjunction
with how development policies and interventions construct
gender and how they impact different gender differently.
Through various methods of learning in class, students will
be given the knowledge to evaluate the current situation and
think of ways to improve the situation by integrating the needs
of women and men in all aspects of development to achieve
economic, political, and social well-being of the people.

Final Examination: 40%
