How did your involvement in the project influence your career choices/personal
commitment to environmental sustainability?
To the team - I'll answer this within the scope of how the project influences my personal
commitment to environmental sustainability as I cant relate ASEP with my current job as a
marketer:
Personally, I find the project deepened my commitment to sustainability in my daily
lifestyle. I recall a particular moment during our fieldwork in a rural community, where I saw
firsthand the devastating effects of deforestation on local ecosystems and livelihoods. The
experience was eye-opening and made me reflect on my own lifestyle. I started making
deliberate changes in my daily life, such as reducing plastic use and recycle my waste. I
vividly remember the sense of fulfillment I felt when I bring my own food containers to
'tapau' my food; small but significant shift that felt make the world a less polluted place.
Any memorable moments?
Recognizing that Cambodia continues to recover from the impacts of past conflicts, I was
profoundly moved by the community's relentless dedication to rebuilding and advancing
their nation, step by step. I distinctly remember passing a monument on a bus while our
guide shared the harrowing history of the Khmer Rouge and the enduring scars it has left
on Cambodian society. These efforts reflect the deep cultural significance of the
Cambodian people's resilience and their unwavering commitment to creating a brighter
future.
Any message to your group members during ASEP or anything else you would like to
share?
To my 2019 Malaysian ASEP cohort and groupmates, the bond we forged during this
project is truly special, transcending borders and nations. I hope you're all achieving great
things wherever you are!
