Teori-teori Kesusasteraan
Theories of Literature

Kursus ini memperkenalkan teori-teori utama yang berpengaruh dalam kritikan kesusasteraan. Pelajar akan dilatih dalam
penggunaan teori untuk menilai kesusasteraan. Teks dari genre-genre berlainan akan dipilih supaya pelajar- pelagar dapat
membaca dengan lebih kritis. Pelajar juga akan berpeluang untuk mengkritik teori-teori berkenaan dan membincangkan
kerelevanan semasa.

This course introduces students to the main theories that have been influential in literary criticism. The students will write essays and
also make presentations in tutorials as exercises in the application of the theories to literature. An understanding of these theories
should help students to read more critically the texts that are taught in other courses offered by this and other departments.
Students will also be given the opportunity to critique the theories and to discuss their contemporary relevance.

Shakespeare dan Penulis Sezamannya
Shakespeare and his Contemporaries

Pelajar akan membelajari tema-tema penting di kesusasteraan zaman Renaissance dan cara setiap penulis mendekati tema-
tema tersebut. Mereka akan terdedah kepada konteks sosio-budaya zaman tersebut dan berfikir tentang cara bagaimana karya
Shakespeare kini difahami.

Students will discover important themes in early modern literature and the unique ways in which writers addressed these. They
will be introduced to the socio-cultural contexts of that time and also consider vital ways in which Shakespeare is understood
today.

Kesusasteraan Pasca Kolonial: Tema dan Metafora
Postcolonial Literature: Themes and Tropes

Kursus ini memberi tumpuan kepada karya sastera yang ditulis oleh penulis yang tinggal di sebuah negara yang telah dijajah
dan yang menulis dalam bahasa Inggeris. Pelajar akan meneroka bagaimana ide dan isu-isu pascakolonial yang dibincangkan
dalam kelas mempunyai kesan pada pemahaman mereka tentang dunia semasa. Kursus ini adalah berorientasi teks tetapi
perkaraperkara sejarah dan konteks juga dianggap sebagai penting. Kursus ini merangkumi pembentangan dan perbincangan
teori pasca-kolonial sastera.

This course focuses on literary narratives written by authors who live in countries which were colonised and who write in English.
Students will explore how postcolonial ideas and issues discussed in class impact on their understanding of the contemporary
world. The course is text-oriented but matters of history and context are also considered as essential. The course includes
presentations and discussions on postcolonial literary theory.
