Sinopsis Kursus Teras / Core Courses Synopsis

Kesusasteraan dan Alam Sekitar
Literature and the Environment

Dalam kursus ini, pelajar akan belajar tentang cara bagaimana idea tentang alam sekitar mempengaruhi karya sastera. Mereka akan
didedahkan kepada pelbagai teks dari zaman dan tempat yang berlainan untuk melihat bagaimana alam sekitar direpresentasi dan apa
yang didedahkan berkenaan identiti, masyarakat, budaya dan politik alam sekitar. Merekajuga akan belajar tentang isu alam sekitar dan isu
tempat dalam karya sastera and kepentingan isu-isu ini dalam konteks krisis dan keadilan alam sekitar. Untuk mengaitkan 'ecocriticism'
dengan 'activism', kursus ini juga akan merangkumi projek kerja lapangan.

In this course, students will learn about the ways in which ideas about the nonhuman world influence and shape literary works. They will read
a wide variety of works to see how the nonhuman is represented at different times and different places and what these representations reveal
about human identities, societies, cultures and the politics of nature. They will also learn about underlying environmental and place issues in
literary works and the relevance of these issues in the context of environmental crisis and justice. This course will also forge links between
ecocriticism and activism in the form of fieldwork projects.

Kesusasteraan dan Budaya popular Malaysia
Malaysian Popular Literature and Culture

Kursus ini merupakan penerokaan Sastera dan Budaya Popular Malaysia. Pelajar akan terdedah kepada pelbagai teks, media dan aspek
budaya Malaysia untuk meneroka dan memahami ekspresi identiti. Tumpuan akan diberi kepada trend baru dalam budaya dan
kesusasteraan Malaysia, yang akan membawa kepada kesedaran menjadi rakyat Malaysia.

This course is an exploration of Malaysian Popular Literature and Culture. Students will engage with a variety of popular texts, media and
aspects of Malaysia culture to explore and understand current expressions of identity and belonging. The focus will be on emerging trends in
culture and literature, the study of which would lead to an awareness of the complexity of being Malaysian.

Penerokaan Fiksyen Jenayah
Crime Fiction: An Investigation

Kursus ini akan memperkenalkan pelajar kepada pelbagai jenis fiksyen jenayah, supaya mereka menjadi sedar akan pelbagai gaya yang
sedia ada dalam genre ini. Mereka akan membaca petikan, cerpen dan novel. Mereka akan belajar bagaimana untuk menganalisis teks-
teks ini, dan juga untuk menghubungkan teks kepada persekitaran sosio-politik dari mana mereka muncul.

This course will introduce students to a wide range of crime fiction, so that they become aware of the variety of styles existing within this
genre. They will read excerpts, short stories and novels. They will learn how to analyze these texts, as well as to connect them to the socio-
political environment from which they emerge.
