Topics in the Nineteenth Century

Kursus in merangkumi pelbagai teks-teks kesusasteraan British yang terkemuka dari zaman Romantik dan Victorian. Pelajar akan
meneliti karya-karya penulisan dari keduadua zaman ini (samada secara petikan atau menyeluruh) dan dari pelbagai genre
kesusasteraan seperti puisi, esei, novel dan wacana politik. Perkembangan di dalam prosa dan puisi abad ke-19 merangkumi karya-
karya Blake, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Byron dan Keats, disusuli Austen, Bronte, Shelley dan Dickens. Topik-topik yang dipilih adalah
secara bertema untuk memupuk pemahaman zaman-zaman kesusasteraan ini dengan lebih holistik, disamping menghubungkaitkan
teks-teks yang dikaji dengan persekitaran sosial, budaya dan intelektual zaman-zaman tersebut.

This course covers a variety of literary texts representative of the British Romantic and Victorian era. Students will be exposed to major
texts from various literary genres such as poetry, essays, novels and political tracts. Developments in nineteenth-century poetry and
prose will begin with the study of selected works ranging from Blake, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Byron and Keats, and followed by
discussions on the works of Austen, Bronte, Shelley and Dickens. Topics will be discussed thematically to enable students to gain a more
holistic understanding of the two literary periods, as well as relate the texts studied to the social, cultural and intellectual milieu of the
.period

The Twentieth Century

Pelajar akan membelajari tema-tema penting di kesusasteraan zaman Renaissance dan cara setiap penulis mendekati tema-
tema tersebut. Mereka akan terdedah kepada konteks sosio-budaya zaman tersebut dan berfikir tentang cara bagaimana karya
Shakespeare kini difahami.

Students will discover important themes in early modern literature and the unique ways in which writers addressed these. They will
be introduced to the socio-cultural contexts of that time and also consider vital ways in which Shakespeare is understood today.

Perjalanan dalam Kesusateraan Pengembaraan
Exploring Travel Literature

Kursus ini menerokai kesusasteraan pengembaraan dari pelbagai era dari zaman kelasik hinggs zaman sekarang. Pelajar akan
menkaji konvensi, tradisi dan evolusi genre kesusasteraan pengembaraan dan kaitannya dengan genre sepeti autobiografi dan
novel.

This course explores travel writings from different ages, from classical to contemporary times. Students will consider the
conventions, traditions and the evolution of this genre and will aslo explore its relation to other literary genres like autobiography
and the novel.
