Mr. Shah Rizal bin Khairuzzaman

Why did you choose this programme?

As an assistant brand manager, I am responsible for
developing & implementing marketing plans,
programs / activities and managing brand A&P as well
as formulating marketing strategies for new product
development. Besides that, coordinating events such
as marketing, PR, social media and trade related are
part of my job as well.

Another part of my work is supporting projects for
new business development such as Horeca, export, e-
Commerce, tea centre and other trade initiatives.

Back in 2019, I started my career as a Research
Executive in a cell culture industry. Throughout the
years as a researcher, I admit that my Biochemistry Assistant Brand Manager
background indeed had helped me most when I was BOH Plantations Sdn. Bhd.
tasked to head the product development. It allowed
me to understand complex processes without any
difficulties. One of the best skills inherited once I
completed all the biochemistry courses in UM is being
able to navigate myself whenever I encounter
difficulties at work.

Immunology and Plant Biochemistry are the most
valuable course for me.

It was during the Nutritional Biochemistry course.
Many of us were divided into several groups, in which
each group was required to create nutritious
foods/beverages. Once you have the base, then of
course you have to create a business out of it. To some
extent, this was also a point where I learned about
sales and marketing.

My younger self was eager to understand life at the
molecular level. Knowing UM as the top research
university in Malaysia, I did not even hesitate
accepting their offer.
