A Community Building Activity with the
Dar Asnaf Al Fateh Shelter
By Dr Mazlan Majid
First year students from the Department of Southeast
Asian Studies have successfully held a program called
“Exploration of Nature and Man” on the 28 and 29 May
2022. This activity involves the participation of the
community consisting of underprivileged residents of the
Dar Asnaf Al Fateh shelter in Gombak, Selangor.
The aim of this project was to help the underprivileged
(such as orphaned children and those living in poverty)
work on their self esteem issues, clean up the shelter and
to create awareness for their plight. The Community
Service Program with the residents of the Dar Asnaf Al
Fateh welfare home is the second program that is fully
managed by students from the Department of Southeast
Asian Studies. Through this programme, first year
students are expected to apply knowledge and skills
related to management. The programme also hopes to
instill team spirit and cooperation, and to help them leave
a positive impact on the local communities and the Students teaching them the proper way to brush their teeth
environment.
