Endowment for Hadiah Kecemerlangan Puan
Sri Vasanthakumaran

We thank Tan Sri K. Kumaran for the grant of RM 30,000 to
start an Endowment Fund to reward the best student from the
Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) programme of the Indian Studies
Department.

The winners of this annual prize, which will be named after
Puan Sri Kumaran, will be awarded RM1000.

The prize was awarded for the first time at the Universiti
Malaya Convocation in 2023. In a brief ceremony held on 24
August 2023, the Dean of FASS received the donation on
behalf of the Department of Indian Studies.

Benchmarking Visit by Universiti Malaysia

Sabah to FASS@UM

A delegation of administrators from Universiti Malaysia Sabah
(UMS) visited FASS on 25 May 2023. The seven-strong UMS
delegation was led by Haji Firdaus Abdullah, the Senior
Deputy Registrar, UMS. The Dean, Prof. Danny Wong led the
UM team consisting of Deputy Dean, Associate Professor
Firuza Begum Mustafa, the Administrative Manager, Ms Wan
Nooraini Abdul Hamid and senior administrators from the
Faculty. The Faculty also invited a team from the Human and
Talent Management section, led by Ms Azlina Sardi. The
discussion and exchange of ideas were fruitful as the
universities explored areas of future collaboration.

Visit of USM

School of Humanities

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences received a delegation
from the School of Humanities, Universiti Sains Malaysia
(USM) on 14 July 2023. Led by the Dean of the School,
Associate Professor Dr Jasni Sulong, the delegation consisted
of academics from four sections, namely, History, Geography,
English Language Studies, Malay Language & Linguistics and
Islamic Studies, as well as executive staff. The purpose of the
visit was benchmarking and exploring areas of mutual
cooperation. . The delegation was welcomed by the Dean of
FASS who was joined by the Deputy Deans and the
Administrative Manager to interact with the USM team. It is
hoped that the visit will open up areas for collaboration.
