       Visit of delegation from the Faculty of Liberal
                     Arts, Prince of Songkla University,

                                          Hatyai Campus



    A  delegation  from  the  Faculty  of  Liberal  Arts,  Prince  of
    Songkla University, Hatyai Campus visited the Faculty on 26
    May  2023.  The  15  members  delegation  was  led  by  the
    Dean, Associate Professor Dr Kanda Janyam. It consisted of
    five Associate Deans, three Assistant Deans, the Director of
    Research  Center  for  Languages,  Culture  and  Human
    Development  and  other  members  of  staff.  FASS  team
    consisted  of  Professor  Danny  Wong,  the  Dean,  Professor
    Hamedi  Mohd  Adnan,  Deputy  Dean  for  Postgraduate
    Studies,  Professor  Haris  Abdul  Wahab,  Deputy  Dean  for
    Students  Affairs,  Associate  Professor  Md  Azalanshah  Md
    Syed, Deputy Dean for Value Creation and Enterprise, and
    officers. The discussion focused on students exchange and
    research collaboration.






















                                                                             Gawai and

                                                                        Kaamatan Day


                                                              The Faculty celebrated the Gawai and Kaamatan Festivals
                                                              on 22 June 2023. This year’s celebration was organised by
                                                              the  AnSoc  Society  (Anthropology  and  Sociology  Students
                                                              Society).  The  two  celebrations  mark  an  important  date  in
                                                              the  annual  calendar  of  the  indigenous  communities  in
                                                              Sabah and Sarawak.


                                                              This  year,  as  customary,  stalls  were  set  up  to  showcase
                                                              delicacies  from  the  two  states.  Laksa  Sarawak  was  a
                                                              particular  favourite  amongst  the  visitors.  Several  stalls
                                                              displayed art and craft of the two states, including costumes
                                                              and bead items. A stall selling books on Bornean literature
                                                              was an interesting addition in this year’s celebration.

                                                              The  celebrations  were  brought  to  life  with  cultural
                                                              performances  like  traditional  Bidayuh  rituals,  Iban  dance
                                                              and  the  energetic  Murut  warrior  dance,  as  well  as  pecial
                                                              talks from artists from both states.
