51 BACHELOR OF SPORTS SCIENCE(EXERCISE SCIENCE) 2020/2021 ACADEMIC SESSION
Course Code VIB3212
Course Title BIOCHEMISTRY OF EXERCISE AND SPORTS
Credit 3
Medium of Instruction English Language
Course Pre-requisite(s)/ VIB2102 Nutritions and Energy Balance in Exercsie and Sports
Minimum Requirement(s)
Learning Outcomes At the end of the course, students are able to:
1. Elaborate the basic concepts of metabolic regulation; biochemical principles related
to enzyme and metabolic energy production.
2. Apply the biochemical reactions in different sports intensity and duration.
3. Explain the adaptations to training in terms of mechanisms and limitations.
Synopsis of Course Contents The course emphasizes a new concept in exercise biochemistry based on the latest
findings in the field. Words such as genomics, proteomics is commonly used today to
describe the functional cells, protein expression as well as a detailed analysis of body
metabolism. The course also provides an understanding of the connection between
metabolism toward sports performance by explaining the biochemical processes specific
to different sports. Students will also be able to understand how biochemical processes
that determine the metabolic response to exercise is influenced by adaptation training.
