Learning Outcomes At the end of the course, students are able to:
(1) relate strategic issues in local government and
urbanisation;
(2) examine the links between local government and urban
environment and its relationship with local and urban
issues; an
(3) assess reforms relating to local government,
urbanisation, democracy, service delivery, and
governance to the current scenario.
Synopsis of Course This course explores the fundamentals form and function of
Contents local government in the intergovernmental space. It is
designed to meet the needs of students who wish to develop
an understanding of local government and urbanisation. This
course examines the history of local government, and
explaining its complex and varied relationship with higher
tiers of government. Finally, it explores the nature, causes of
urbanisation distress related to local government, and
examines the relevant policies to address them.
Assessment Weightage Continuous Assessment: 60%
