BSGF6105 ADVANCED ASSET AND BUILDING PATHOLOGY
4 Credits The deterioration hypothesis and the primary deterioration mechanisms that affect buildings; the causes and
effects of building deterioration; the agencies and sources of building failures; investigation preliminaries and
methodologies used in Building Pathology: diagnostic techniques and decision making; personal and evidence
based practices; the five principles for building; equipment, tools and techniques for appraising defects;
investigating and diagnosing typical problems in older buildings; strategies and tactics for remedying and
preventing deterioration of buildings; techniques for assessing and predicting the durability and service life of
buildings.
At the end of this course, students are able to:
1. Identify symptoms, causes and effects of building defects.
2. Perform building defect diagnosis through appropriate procedures.
3. Develop teamwork skills through effective communication
BSGF6106 STRATEGIC FACILITIES PLANNING AND BUSINESS MANAGEMENT
4 Credits To establish effective decision making and control in matters related to facilities planning and management of an
organisation. The module develops quality assurance and enables the students to evaluate commercial,
industrial, public and historic building in relation to user need of space, interior design, refurbishment,
maintenance management and total user costs.
At the end of this course, students are able to:
1. Identify the property portfolios in considering an appropriate and effective facilities modelling
2. Analyse the Concept of Flexibility and Reuse in changing organisational environment.
3. Integrate alternative strategic facilities planning and balance strategies in facilities management and
maintenance.
BSGF6107 COMPUTER AIDED IN FACILITIES & MAINTENANCE MANAGEMENT
4 Credits Introduction to the project planning and management using computer applications. i.e. Computer Aided Design &
Drafting, Microsoft Project and Computer Maintenance Management System. Exposure to the types and
component of computer application, the use in designing and measuring buildings, the operation system and
relevant image processing. Design drawing and project management through 2-Dimensional graphics using
appropriate computer software.
At the end of this course students are able to:
1. Identify various computer software in facilities management and maintenance.
2. Prepare audiovisual presentation using computer application
3. Apply Computer Aided Drawings
BSGF6108 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
4 Credits This course introduces the students to the field of research. It examines in depth the research process and
introduces the student to the various aspect of doing social and scientific research. The topics covered include
research process, research design, data collection and analysis, and reporting of research results
At the end of this course, students are able to:
1. Practice a wide range of qualitative and quantitative methods and approaches applicable to facilities and
maintenance management.
2. Apply the theory and techniques of developing and conducting research in relevant fields
3. Formulate research proposal
