I used to be distant towards older people as I felt that we didn't have a
lot in common due to the large age gap. Because of this I never had the
interest to spark a conversation with older adults. Throughout this
research, I found out that although we lived in different generations, I
am still able to relate most of the stories that he has shared with me. I
have also learnt a lot from him through his life stories and challenges.
Besides, I love listening to him reminiscing about his younger self with
a genuine smile on his face, even though it was filled with lots of ups
and downs. It gives me hope that things will get better one day and I too
can look back at the hardships I am currently going through and have a

             not just their problems.

We don’t know what they’ve been through so treat everyone with compassion and with an open heart. A
society that is considerate of others would be a better place to live in, so hopefully by listening to more life
              stories we can achieve that.

            Chua Run Kang, Year 2
I feel that it was a great experience to talk to an older person and ask
about his past life. It was something that we have never done before.
After interviewing Dr. Goh Kay Chee, it gives me a clearer
understanding on how an older adult thinks of themselves and the
society. It touches my heart when I know that Dr. Goh is still giving
care to his resident in his nursing home even though he has already
retired. This interview session made me have a self-reflection on my
judgemental prejudice on the things that I rarely know.

             Step out of your comfort
                   zone.

Stand out of your comfort zone. You would never get to know a person until you start talking to them and
trying to understand them. I would say that understanding is key to reducing the generation gap and it has
to be done by both the younger and the older generation.
