Interviewers of Madam Emi Lagunay

I had changed my impression about older adults who I thought would
be stern and stubborn. As for some older people, talking about personal
matters might not come easily. They may have never talked about how
they feel and what they have sacrificed for their life now. On the
contrary, Madam Emi was very willing to share her story and gave us
some useful advice from her past experience. She is such an optimist
who always strives for a better life instead of grumbling about the
difficulties. She reminded me that we should not take anything for
granted but always be grateful for what we have now. She also made me
realise that we should always think positively towards the challenges so

Always be patient and caring for the older adults. Put yourself in their shoes as we will be the same with them
in one day. People always say that there is a barrier between youngsters and older adults, but I think the
barrier is there for us to learn from each other and improve our weaknesses. Also, we should always have a
positive attitude towards every obstacle, try to adapt ourselves to unpleasant situations and hoping for a
favorable outcome, focus on good things and do not be scared to fail.

I was reminded to always be grateful for the things we have in our life.
Madam Emi portrayed a very positive and cheerful attitude towards life
even though the pandemic had quite an impact on her job and her
monthly income. She is one of the strongest older adults I’ve ever met.
Madam Emi made me understand better that happiness comes from
within us, it is we who determine how our life turns out to be. If we
always think negative thoughts, our life will no doubt be sad and dull as
we only focus on the ‘not so good’ things in life. On the other hand, if we
learn to nurture a positive mindset, our life will turn out to be brighter
and happier despite the hardships that we may face.
Storms don’t last forever,
continue to stand strong and
this too shall pass.

I hope the younger generation can be more patient and understanding when interacting with older adults. Try
to spend more time talking to them so that they feel more treasured and loved.
