By Amira Marissa Cassandra Azhari
3rd year, English
The Literary and Dramatic Association, or LiDra, is the re-
established student society of the English Department,
Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Though it was once
defunct due to inactivity, undergraduate representatives
from every year of study in the English Department
joined forces to get LiDra back on the track this session.
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) for Session
2021/2022 was held on 21st March 2022 through the
official LiDra Microsoft Teams channel to officiate the
appointment of this session’s High Committee and
Executive Committee, with English Department
Associate Professor Dr. Susan Philip as the association’s
advisor.
Under the leadership of Session 2021/2022 LiDra
President, Amira Marissa Cassandra Azhari, the
association aims to organise varied initiatives to foster
passion and talent in English literature and theatre arts
not only among those in the English Department, but
also amongst the other students of Universiti Malaya.
Through its open membership, LiDra’s vision is to create
a space of learning and networking that embodies the
‘lit’ in Literary with a flair for the ‘drama’ in Dramatic.
LiDra collaborated with Persatuan Sejarah Universiti
Malaya (PSUM) for a Surah Yasin recitation ceremony in
Semester I Session 2021/2022 where the President of
LiDra represented the association to give a
commemoration speech. In Semester 2 Session
2021/2022, LiDra organised an online horror-themed
movie night in conjunction with Friday, the 13th event
on 13th May 2022, and also an English Department
