By Associate Professor Dr Helena Varkkey Apart from this, Dr Helena held several networking
meetings with other colleagues at the Institute, including
Professor Dr Doris Fuchs who is well known for her work
on sustainable agrifood chains. She also participated in a
writing workshop on “Developing effective writing
practices: writing in a social space” with Dr Karen and her
colleagues.
Dr Helena had been in contact with Dr Siegel via an
ERASMUS Visiting Scholar Fellowship to the University of
Glasgow, United Kingdom in 2019. Besides the above

Programme
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Helena Varkkey was invited to deliver a
guest lecture on “Transboundary Haze in ASEAN: By Associate Professor Dr Helena Varkkey
Challenges and Opportunities for Science Diplomacy” to
about 15 participants of the YSN-ASM Science Diplomacy
Training Programme 2022, on 1 November 2022.
The programme was organized by the Young Scientists
Network-Academy of Sciences Malaysia (YSN-ASM) with
aims to introduce and empower science diplomacy
awareness and activities among its members and affiliates
and also to spark interest and initiate conversation on
science diplomacy among the young scientists in
Malaysia. The theme for this year’s programme was
“Malaysian Young Scientists at the Intersection of National
and Regional Diplomacy”.
