UM lecturer wins HSPM double prize
Dr. Mohamad Saleeh Rahamad, Senior Lecturer from the Department of
Media and Communication Studies won a double prize at the First
Malaysian Literary Prize (HSPM) ceremony held at the Language and
Library Hall on 24 November 2022. Dr. Rahamad won the prize in the
Literary Essay/Criticism category (semi-scientific) for his paper "Utopia or
Dystopia in Futuristic Novels", published in Dewan Sastera magazine, May
2019.
In addition, he also won a prize in the Poetry category for his poem titled
"Sewaktu hujan melebat" which was published in the Dewan Sastera
magazine, September 2019.
The Perdana Sastera Malaysia (HSPM) is the country's highest literary
award organized by the Language and Library Council. Initially known as
the Literary Prize (HKS), HSPM was instituted in 1971 as the brainchild of
Tun Abdul Razak Hussein. It was renamed Malaysian First Literary Prize in
1996.
Also receiving prizes in the ceremony officiated by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Education Malaysia, Datuk
Yusran Shah Mohd Yusof were the nation's literary icons like Muhammad Haji Saleeh, Datuk Seri A. Samad Said, and the
late Datuk Dr. Ahmad Kamal Abdullah (Kemala). The other winners were the recipients of the Southeast Asia Writing
Award (SEA Write Award), namely Datuk Jasni Matlani, Syed Mohd Zakir Syed Othman, and the late Malim Ghozali PK.
A Glittering Award Ceremony by the

The gold medal award ceremony is organized by the
Department of Indian Studies, FASS to honour and
encourage the high achievers of the department. The
14th Gold Medal award ceremony was successfully held
at Dewan Kuliah A, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences,
Universiti Malaya on 5th December, 2022. This
ceremony was fully sponsored by Mr. OMS PA.
Thiayagarajan, the executive president of OMS
Foundation & Group and the founder and chairman of
ARIMA.
Some of the Ph.D gold medal recipients
A total of 25 students received their gold medals and
certificates for their excellent educational achievements.
These included 16 Bachelor degree recipients, 5 from
the Masters program and 4 Doctoral candidates who
graduated in the 62nd Convocation Ceremony this year.
A fund of RM 100,000 announced by Mr. OMS PA.
Thiayagarajan for student development further
bolstered the spirit of the students and the lecturers of
the department.
