FASS Students Lead Community Health Check
and Eco Exhibition at Sungai Way

After gaining significant social mileage in social media for
their outstanding SULAM project at Pulau Ketam in May
2022, three undergraduates from the Chinese Studies
Department, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Universiti
Malaya were asked by the Sungai Way Rural
Development Committee to plan, execute and organize
the Sungai Way Health Check and Eco Exhibition on 30th
October 2022. The exhibition at PJ Eco Plaza was warmly
received, attracting about 300 participants.

and Lee Mei Leng explained that the issue of waste
disposal at Sungai Way, a Chinese “new village”, needed
to be addressed urgently through community
engagement. They assisted the village committee in
planning and executing a Health Check and Eco
Exhibition for the community to implement an eco-
awareness programme titled, “Cong Tudi Fasheng: Shequ
yu Qiche Zheji (Clarion Call from the Earth: Community
Engagement and Enterprising Programme)” which
engages local young people and allows them to present

Watching The ‘Little Forest’

40 first year students from the Department of International
and Strategic Studies, Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences,
University of Malaya attended the Launching Ceremony
of the 2022 Korean Film Festival at Golden Screen
Cinemas (GSC) in Mid Valley, Kuala Lumpur under the
supervision of Associate Professor Dr. Helena Muhamad
Varkkey on the 21st of November 2022.
This event, organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Helena Muhamad Varkkey and UM students posing
after the movie at GSC, Midvalley.
Korea in Malaysia and sponsored by the Korean Film
Council, aimed at promoting Korean films and culture.
The guests enjoyed South Korean delicacies and
participated in Hangul calligraphy along with the
screening of the film ‘Little forest.’ The film focused on the
food, culture and life in modern South Korea. The film
festival found a keen audience amongst the lovers of
Hallayu culture in Malaysia.
