Korean Studies Majors Received Invitation to
attend MOKKOJI Kpop Concert
By Athirah Izzati, 3rd Year, On 13 November 2022, five undergraduate students from
East Asian Studies Department the East Asian Studies Department majoring in Korean
Studies attended the K Pop Concert (MOKKOJI) in MITEC,
Kuala Lumpur. The department received an invitation
from the Korean Embassy in Malaysia and were given five
free tickets to attend the event . Kpop stars Blank2y, Jeon
So Mi, Moon Bin and Sanha performed at the concert.
The MOKKOJI Festival was hosted by the Ministry of
Culture, Sports and Tourism and KOFICE. Through the
MOKKOJI Festival and concert, the Korean Studies
students received a once in a lifetime opportunity to
interact with Kpop stars and to better understand the

currently working as an influencer (middle) popular culture.
Undergraduate student bags honours at the
Kenyalang Journalism Awards 2022
Muhammad Hafeezzur Rahman Muzamir, a final-year
student at the Department of Media and
Communication Studies, won first place in the general
category for online television and video - Business and
Economic broadcasting at the 34th Kenyalang Media
Awards 2022. He also won the main prize of the night –
The Premier Sarawak Award in the broadcast category
for his special report on Pokok Terung Asam (Latin
name Solanum lasiocarpum Dunal).
Pokok Terung Asam, also known as sour eggplant tree,
is a type of fruiting shrub popular in Sarawak. The
vegetable, known as the Dayak eggplant to the locals,
was granted a Geographical Indication (GI) as a product
of Sarawak origin by the Malaysian Intellectual Property
Corporation (MyIPO) in 2013 and has provided
opportunities for Sarawakian farmers to generate
income. Muhammad Hafeezzur’s report highlighted the
plant through a two episode special report published Muhammad Hafeezzur Rahman Muzamir and his top award
on the 13 and 14 August 2022, respectively.
His video report also highlighted how the plant can be
transformed into a variety of products. Muhammad
Hafeezzur recently finished his internship at Television
Sarawak (TVS) and has also been active in writing his
personal political opinions in Malaysiakini, Free
Malaysia Today and The Malaysia Insight.
