Dato’ Professor Dr Azizan bin Hj Abu Samah, Honorary
Professor at the Department of Geography FASS and
Director of the National Antarctic Research Centre,
received the Pingat Tokoh Antartika Kebangsaan from
Sultan Terengganu Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin during
the Yayasan Penyelidikan Antartika Sultan Mizan’s 10th
Anniversary Dinner.
Professor Azizan is one of the most prominent Malaysian
scholars on Antarctica and climate change in Malaysia
and internationally. The Faculty congratulates Professor
Azizan on this well-deserved award!

Three Faculty members were successful in their
applications for the Ministry of Higher Education’s
Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS): Professor
Dr Siti Hajar binti Abu Bakar Ah, Professor Dr Haris bin
Abd Wahab, and Mr Looi Siew Teip. The FRGS Grant
Award Ceremony was held on 7 October 2022 at the
Auditorium, Research Management and Innovation
Complex, Universiti Malaya. Here is an overview of some of
