TO EMPOWER ICT TO DEVELOP A KNOWLEDGEABLE
COMMUNITY
Community development knowledge is an important asset for a learning and research organisation such
as The University of Malaya. In empowering ICT, application and use of ICT technologies to use the latest
technology in using the latest technology in innovative and creative ways will help build their identity
and develop a solid interaction foundation between each internal entity that ultimately support the
strategic mission of UM in order to achieve the status of a respected Research University globally.
Strategic Plan can be implemented using the latest & easy to maintain technology, innovative ICT service
and web-based and a paperless environment.
A. The latest and easy to maintain technology
To prepare various types of integrative portal through application of various types of ICT technology
in the production of integrated ICT solutions to support collaborative culture that meets the current
needs of UM organisation's strategic mission. UM integrative Site / Portal Preparation use the latest
technology that allows UM community to get the latest information quickly. In addition, the seamless
integration between systems enables continuous information access with minimal downtime.
B. Innovative ICT services and web based
To create a web-based integrated platform to support a variety of learning activities, teaching and
administration across a variety of administrative functions and work processes and encourage the
sharing of knowledge and information, for example eLearning, web content management - ccm edi,
eProcurement, umportal, umnews, umexpert and others. Implementation of web-based applications
will enable access and sharing of information transparently. Therefore, this can help the process of
making the right decision by UM community.
C. Paperless environment
To provide an Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) platform to support and encourage
the effort of the organisation to create a paperless work environment and to promote information
sharing and knowledge facilities through an integrated and interactive access platform. EDMS can
also promote collaboration and facilitate the management of intellectual information process.
