Leading with Purpose
Messages of the Vice Chancellor MESSAGES OF THE VICE CHANCELLOR
and learning experience for us to get the best of both worlds in capitalising on our
collective strength and advantage.
42. This is the mentality that we need to have in navigating the different challenges
and changes in the way we conduct our business, deal with differences, and
manage the changing model of management, leadership and the society and the
larger civilisational change.
43. Taking into account the immense opportunities from the historical and enriching
legacy and status of St Petersburg as a city of knowledge, culture, history and
literature, UM will capitalize on the new openings to strengthen synergy and
cooperation in these fields, through language or cultural or political courses and
academic and research offerings that will benefit both nations.
44. The focus on key areas of strength which will be of critical importance in the future
especially on critical minerals, will also be jointly developed, with the joint support
by St Petersburg Mining University.
45. Universiti Malaya continues to serve as the platform for a bigger role in connecting
Russia to this side of the world through meaningful knowledge transfer and joint
knowledge creation that benefit not only ASEAN but also to Global South and
BRICS.
46. The higher education partnership between Russia and Malaysia has enabled the
spillover effect into greater diplomatic trust and dialogue building in contributing
to a more prosperous Southeast Asia and Asia Pacific.
47. We will continue to work together in jointly producing more talents, students,
researchers and experts in the science field in developing our common and new
technologies and scientific areas, which will create a more stable framework of
resilience against future threats or risks.
44
48. I have also recently concluded the official visit to Uzbekistan,at the invitation of
the Uzbekistan government as the International Observer for the Parliamentary
Elections.
49. Various discussions on collaborations were in place, ranging from joint academic
collaborations to student and staff exchange, and joint research and co supervision
with various Uzbekistan institutions, including the Ministry of Higher Education,
Science and Innovation and other top universities and emerging institutions in
key fields.
50. Agreements on general partnerships have also been agreed upon, and matching
efforts with different departments under UM and counterparts in Uzbekistan
institutions.
51. The extraordinary cultural hospitality and human touch in Uzbekistan have
brought a new sense of realisation and reflection in the way we connect with
fellow human beings, and how we value and cherish the connections we have
with others, which are often times taken for granted.
52. The real life realistic touch by the essence of human kindness, character and
feelings are the most important, and trust-based and sincere real life touch will
make the difference in the things that we do and the lives that we influence.
53. I have seen the persistence of human character in being portrayed in the normal
daily practices of a human being, and most often, the small little things are what
defined the lasting memory and appreciation to others and from others. This
holds true in our long term management of our work ethics, and in all our dealings
with other human beings.
54. At a time where expectations for key targets and objectives often overshadow
the simple gestures and practical terms among human beings among all creeds
and races, we must continue to build an ecosystem where all human beings are
treated with kindness, compassion and justice.
