Dear Campus Community,
Bismillahirrahmanirrahim
4 NOVEMBER 2024
Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh and Salam Sejahtera
As we near the final quarter of 2024, we will need to redouble our efforts to address
all loopholes and to create comprehensive plans to ensure we achieve all the targets
and objectives that we have envisioned for this year, and for the strategic planning for
next year.
I want to send a two-part message to the entire campus community.
1. The first part is about the state of our past major events that we have undergone.
We have successfully welcomed all our new students from the world over and
throughout the country in our Week of Welcome (WoW) Ceremony, encompassing
students from undergraduate to postgraduate level.
2. I applaud and appreciate the efforts and dedication shown in ensuring that all of
our different departments and portfolios synergise their efforts to create a joint
platform in ensuring all of our new students to have received the needed support,
care and help in their first phase of joining our UM Family.
3. We warmly welcome all the new students, and we encourage all of you to fully
immerse yourselves and experience your student life here in Malaysia’s oldest 39
and top university, which will form new lasting memories for all of you.
4. As we have proudly achieved a new record of new undergraduate students’
registration for this new session which stood at 5210 undergraduate students,
the highest in history, we strive to ensure that all of our new students be given the
most comprehensive overview and support in a holistic manner encompassing
academic, cultural, sports, leadership, skill capacity and other domains in their
new journey of campus life.
5. We deeply appreciate the enthusiasm and passion of all of the new students, and
also the unwavering dedication of all of our teams whether they are Pemudahcara
Mahasiswa, the teams from the Student Affairs or all of our related portfolios in
managing the students in faculties, residential colleges and other departments.
6. All of the new students will commence their study in the new semester, and we
wish them the very best in their learning journey in our amazing campus culture
and community, guided by our campus community.
7. We have also officially signed the acceptance of the option of SSPA for our staff
benefits and welfare. This reflects the positive agreement with the initiative to
empower and to enhance the efficacy and efficiency of the staff, in line with the
overall strategic agenda of uplifting the performance of the civil service by the
government.
8. This will enable a greater holistic outcome and performance by all the staff and
our human capital capacity, by ensuring that their systemic welfare, needs and
concerns are addressed by this comprehensive SSPA scheme.
9. All these will enable us to give our best to the university and the nation, and to
continue our path towards rejuvenation and reform in ensuring that UM remains
the leader in the domain of transformational excellence for the future of our nation
and humanity.
