Nationalism In Malaysia

Kursus ini akan mengkaji kewujudan gerakan nasionalisme di negara ini. Bahagian awal kursus ini akan mengkaji bentuk dan corak
nasionalisme yang wujud di Eropah dan ini akan diikuti dengan pengkajian gerakan nasionalisme yang wujud di negara ini. Di antara
tematema yang akan dikaji adalah gerakan Islah, sosioekonomi, berpersatuan dan separa politik di negara ini diperingkat awal.
Kemudian kajian ini akan mengkaji kewujudan beberapa gerakan nasionalis yang utama selepas Perang Dunia Kedua dan menganalisis
peranan and pengaruh gerakan-gerakan ini dalam proses dekolonisasi.

This course will examine the emergence of nationalism in the country. The early part of the course will look at the nature and type of
nationalism that emerged in this country. Among the themes that will be examined are the emergence of Islamic movements, socio-
economic movements and semi political movements. Then the course will examine the nationalist movement and its impact on
decolonisation.

Islam dan Politik di Timur Tengah Moden
Islam and Politics in the Modern Middle East

Kursus ini membincangkan penglibatan Islam dalam politik di Timur Tengah Moden selepas Perang Dunia Pertama sehingga kini.
Perbincangan dimulakan dengan lata rbelakang Timur Tengah diikuti peranan pemikiran islah dan gagasan Pan-Islamisme yang
diperjuangkan oleh Jamal alDin al- Afghani dalam membentuk pemikiran politik umat Islam di Timur Tengah. Seterusnya, perbincangan
kursus ditumpukan kepada penglibatan gerakan Islam di negara negara terpilih di Timur Tengah dengan tumpuan permulaan diberikan
kepada penglibatan Islam dalam proses politik di Turki, diikuti perkembangan Ikhwan al-Muslimin serta kesannya ke atas penglibatan
Islam dalam proses politik di Mesir, selain penglibatan Hamas dalam konflik Palestin Isreal di Palestin. Penglibatan Islam dalam proses
politik di Timur Tengah turut membincangkan peranan ulama dalam Revolusi Iran pada tahun 1979, penaklukan ke atas Iraq dan konflik
Islam dengan Barat, serta pemerintahan Parti Baath di Syria dan reaksi umat Islam. Sebagai kesimpulan, kursus ini membuat penilaian
terhadap peristiwa Arab Spring dan masa depan penglibatan Islam dalam proses politik di Timur Tengah.

This course discusses the involvement of Islam in politics in the modern Middle East since the First World War until today. The discussion
began with the background of the Middle East followed by the idea of islah and Pan-Islamism thought by Jamal al-Din alAfghani in
shaping the political minds of Muslims in the Middle East. Subsequently, course discussions were devoted to the involvement of Islamic
movements in selected countries in the Middle East with a preliminary focus on Islamic involvement in the political process in Turkey,
followed by the development of the Ikhwan alMuslimin and their impact on the involvement of Islam in the political process in Egypt, as
well as engagement of Hamas in the Palestinian- Isreal conflict in Palestine. The involvement of Islam in the political process in the
Middle East also discussed the role of scholars in the Iranian Revolution in 1979, the conquest of Iraq and the Islamic conflict with the
West, and the Baath Party’s rule in Syria and the reaction of Muslims. In conclusion, this course assesses Arab Spring events and the
future of Islamic involvement in the political process in the Middle East.
