APRU Global Health Conference Foreword
2025
It is with great pride and honour that Universiti Malaya welcomes distinguished
guests, researchers, and thought leaders from around the world to the APRU Global
Health Conference 2025. This year’s conference, co-hosted by the Department of
Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, and the
Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU), stands as a beacon of collaboration
and a manifestation of shared purpose in advancing the global health agenda.
The theme, “Towards Planetary Health Equity: A Global Call for Shared Solutions,”
could not be more timely or urgent. As the world navigates complex intersections of
climate change, health inequities, and social transformation, we are reminded that
our collective well-being depends on a deeper understanding of the unity between
human, environmental, and planetary health. These challenges transcend borders,
and so must our solutions.
At Universiti Malaya, we believe that universities bear a moral and intellectual
responsibility to lead the search for knowledge that uplifts humanity. This conference
reflects that calling, to advance research with conscience, innovation with empathy,
and collaboration with purpose. It is through partnerships like those fostered under
APRU that we can catalyse lasting change, drive inclusive policy, and nurture resilience
in the face of global health and environmental crises.
Our journey towards planetary health equity demands interdisciplinary vision, scientific 215
rigour, and the courage to act beyond conventional boundaries. It requires a renewed
commitment to fairness in access to health, resources, and opportunities, and to
ensure that the future of our planet is shaped by shared responsibility and ethical
stewardship.
As host, Universiti Malaya reaffirms its dedication to the pursuit of impactful research
and global cooperation in service of humanity. We are deeply grateful to APRU and
all participating institutions for their continued trust and engagement. Together, let us
imagine, innovate, and implement solutions that will define a more prosperous, more
equitable, and sustainable future for all, for a better tomorrow.
