Home of the Bright. Land of the Brave
Di Sini Bermulanya Pintar, Tanah Tumpahnya Berani
FOREWORD (2nd Edition 2025)
Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Malaya
Chairman of the Malaysian Research University Network (MRUN)
It is with great pride that I present the Second Edition of the Malaysian Research
University Network (MRUN) Bulletin for 2025, which focuses on the theme of “Building
the Future of Society Through Science and Technology.” This edition shows MRUN’s
dedication to advancing knowledge to guide the nation forward in facing 21st-century
challenges, and in being the catalyst for future driven resilience and positive changes.
As the world undergoes rapid change fuelled by the Fourth Industrial Revolution,
artificial intelligence, energy transformation, and sustainability challenges, society
demands expertise in science and technology that prioritises people’s values and
needs. As a result, science and technology are more than just tools for development;
they are the foundation for creating a more inclusive, competitive, and sustainable
future, based on the need for values-driven approach and with the yearning of
humanistic vision for the future.
This edition brings together the ideas and discoveries of researchers from the five top
research universities in the country. The featured articles not only highlight research
excellence but also present a fresh perspective on how science and technology can
be applied to real-life problems to develop solutions that directly impact people’s
lives. From healthcare innovations and advancements in green technology to digital
exploration and artificial intelligence, every piece in this bulletin showcases MRUN’s
commitment to shaping the future together, and this reflects the immense importance
of future driven reseach blended with the synergy of values of humanity.

As a network, MRUN believes that a sustainable future can only be achieved through
strong synergy among universities, industry, government, and society. Science
without an appreciation for humanity will not bring prosperity; technology without
values will not lead to true development. Therefore, this bulletin serves as a platform
for us to jointly design the future, grounded in knowledge, focused on innovation, and
aimed at universal benefit, in creating a shared future and shared aspirations of well-
being and harmony.
I extend my gratitude to all the researchers and editorial staff who have contributed
their ideas, expertise, and time to make this edition a success. May the MRUN Bulletin
continue to inspire, fostering confidence that science and technology can help us
create a more prosperous, progressive, and sustainable future for our society and the
world.
