Home of the Bright. Land of the Brave
Di Sini Bermulanya Pintar, Tanah Tumpahnya Berani
Apart from them, there are many more who have dedicated their expertise, time and
support for this historic milestone, and who have been part of this team and effort, and
I apologise for not being able to name each of them here, but all of their contributions
and dedication are highly appreciated and cherished by the university and the people.
Their unity, precision, calm judgement under pressure and unwavering teamwork
represent the very best of Universiti Malaya’s values and medical spirit.
All of these are made possible under the leadership of Prof Dr Mohd Zulkiflee bin Abu
Bakar as the Director of PPUM, and assisted by Prof Dr Nor’azim bin Mohd Yunus as
the Deputy Director (Surgical), who have been instrumental in synergising the entire
team and efforts.
We also paid heartfelt tribute to the late Adjunct Associate Professor Dr Yoong Boon
Koon, the pioneer and founding Head of the PPUM Liver Transplant Team. His vision,
sacrifice and lifelong commitment continue to inspire every achievement made today.
His legacy lives on in every life saved.
This success is also the fruit of research excellence at UM - with clinical outcomes
and evidence published in Pediatric Surgery International now being applied globally
and translated into real-world impact that saves lives. These research and publications
by our team have now been a source of reference by many top surgeons, clinicians
and have been used for real life practical usages in the medical fields that have helped
patients.
This is synonym with our mantra here in UM where we publish in top quality journals
not just for the sake of publishing, but with the objective of creating real life impact to
the people and the world.
