17 DECEMBER 2025 am proud to present the Universiti Malaya Budget 2026 this
morning at Dewan Tunku Canselor. This is not merely the
presentation of a budget, but a historic moment that demands
clarity of vision, courage in making choices, and wisdom in
steering the future.

Today’s world is undergoing the fastest and most uncertain transformations in modern
history - from global geopolitical volatility and great-power competition, to economic
and fiscal pressures, and on to the technological revolution, and demographic shifts
that are reshaping the global higher-education landscape. In this new reality, universities
can no longer move in a linear or reactive manner, nor rely fully on archaic models.
Universities must be agile, resilient, and forward-looking. It is with this awareness that
we presented the UM Budget 2026.

It marks an important milestone for Universiti Malaya. For the first time, the presentation
of the Universiti Malaya Budget, including PPUM, is conducted openly to the entire
campus community.
This step reflects the University Management’s commitment to ensuring that every
member of the University community has a clearer understanding of the University’s
strategic direction, particularly regarding the priorities that have been set and how
financial allocations are distributed and utilised.

I believe that when all of us understand how the University’s financial resources
are planned and used, it builds confidence, trust, and a spirit of togetherness in
shouldering this shared responsibility.
