Home of the Bright. Land of the Brave
Di Sini Bermulanya Pintar, Tanah Tumpahnya Berani
57. These meetings and dialogue sessions with the faculty members and faculty
representatives are critical in reinforcing a consistent message that a high
performing mentality and a shift in mindset are critically needed to ensue that the
university’s reform and transformation plan is in the right gear.
58. I have reiterated the same consistent message and reminder that the whole of the
faculty community will need to be united, synergised, passionate and committed
in elevating the prestige, quality and reputation of the university in the whole range
of achievement indicators from research and academic advancement to human
capital and infrastructure development.
59. The core message to all faculty members was the strategic and critical need to
reimagine and advance the essence of our university’s role and purpose in nation
building and in creating a new frontier of civilisational progress.
60. We must ensure that UM continues to be the nation’s top flagbearer in steering
the country’s future and direction through our continuous focus and emphasis
on producing world class talents, and academic and research outcomes that will
mould the country’s future and resilience.
61. All faculty members will need to share the same unified and synergised end goal
and aspiration in this regard, and to work hard towards advancing the university
to the highest level of purpose and roles in national and global needs.
62. Each of these faculties has its own key strength and potential, and the future role
and importance to the nation and the world have never been more important and
strategic.
63. We will continue to ensure that our faculties continue to live up to their highest
potential and standards, and we appreciate the committed efforts put in by all the
faculty members and staff in advancing their faculties and in turn, elevating the
position of our university. 33
64. The faculty remains critical in the next phase of national and global transformation
in the strategic areas of technological and economic advancement.
65. With the new emphasis and focus on Artificial Intelligence, data management,
robotics, digital transformation, new generation digital technology reforms, and
many other areas that are at the centre of national transformation, the Faculty’s
role has never been more important.
66. I emphasised on the new need for a new phase of readiness, resilience and future
driven in churning out the right human capital in these areas, and in nurturing the
right knowledge and technology that encompass both expertise and infrastructure
capacities and in developing our students and talents that can achieve these
successes.
67. The new needs and demands catered for these changes must be met, and the
university will strive to ensure that these are achieved.
68. I have also initiated a specific and tailor made Strategic Committee Level on
each critical portfolio or the Mesyuarat Jawatankuasa Strategik, including on
Research, Academic and Internationalisation, Student Affairs and Human Capital
and Governance in providing a high level platform for the deliberation and decision
making on strategic outlines and plans for each of these critical portfolios.
69. These are critical in assessing and coming out with the best various strategic
reforms and implementations in our overall research direction and capacity.
70. This specific Jawatankuasa Strategik on targeted portfolios remains a critical need
and platform for us to strategise, plan, and execute on future driven initiatives and
plans that must be geared towards the realities of the future.
71. All the relevant teams have been reminded to be agile, speedy, strategic and
holistic in their approaches to reform and advance our true research capabilities
and excellence.
