Stereotypes and Social Harmony Forum

3rd Year, Dept of Southeast Asian Studies
Final year students of the Department of Southeast Asian
Studies organised a forum on 27 January 2023 titled
“Stereotypes and Social Harmony”. It was held in hybrid
mode at Dewan Kuliah A, FASS, and via Zoom. The forum
was well attended by students, invited scholars and
activists from various organisations. The forum aimed to
advocate awareness on eliminating stereotypes and
moving forward towards sustainable social harmony, in
line with SDGs 10 and 16.
The forum dealt with the impact of stereotypes on
relationships between multiethnic and religious groups in
Malaysia. Issues of stereotypes, prejudice, discrimination,
refugee migration, and gender bias were discussed in
relation to levels of harmony in Malaysian society. Some of
the main highlights of the talk include: gender inequality
in political leadership, empowering people with disabilities of the forum was the urgent need to be inclusive and
